The idea behind bakkie & co begins in the buzzing city of Amsterdam, the Netherlands - where our owner was living and working at the time. Inspired with a love for the coffee culture in Australia, Georgina quickly found a second home in the bustling specialty cafes of Holland. Their knowledge and technology was more advanced than she'd seen in most parts of Sydney, her home city. 

Georgina got to explore new brewing methods she'd not seen before, new equipment, experiment with different menus - and she was nothing short of captivated. 

After relocating back home to Sydney, the inspiration & memories of Amsterdam's cafe culture stuck with her. Having Dutch heritage herself and now having experienced the culture firsthand, she knew she wanted to combine these two countries somehow...

The Dutch word 'bakkie' is slang for 'cup of coffee', but the word doesn't just have one meaning - it's also slang for 'truck', or as the Aussies call it, a ute.

And thus, bakkie & co is born. The mix of the sophistication & art of the Amsterdam coffee scene, with Sydney's laid back approach to its casual but strong cafe culture.
